Sunday night, April 29, 2001, fire destroyed the Macedon Public Library and Town Hall. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Library is a total loss with extensive damage to the offices of the Supervisor, Town Clerk, and Assessor. Water damage occurred in the offices of Tax Collector, Court, Recreation and Historian. The condition of the archives located in the basement is unknown.
The town is now operating out of the town barn located behind the Town Hall at 30 Main Street. The barn currently lacks electricity and water. The only operating number is the Building and Zoning Office at 986-7262.
The immediate concern is to secure a location for employees and to get back to work. Several offers have been received which include Dr. Raj Kachoria, Parkwood Heights, Turk Hill on Wayneport Road, Magnatag, Rybrook, Creative Day Care, Village of Macedon and many more.
Court will be held at Creative Day Care on May 1, 2001.
Verizon will set up the same phone numbers in the new spaces.
Library programs have been canceled.
A few concerns were the Assessment Roll and Library drop for books.
Bruce Chapman informed the Board that the Town has $100,000 for relocating.
Councilperson Kenyon entered the meeting at 12:24 p.m.
Councilperson Hammond entered at 1:00 p.m.
The Town Board visited Dr. Raj Kachoria’s property located on Route
31. The building is available with a lease to buy option with first
refusal. The Town could move in immediately. Dr. Kachoria currently
has an agreement with his tenants that would carry over to new owners.
Lease would be $3,500 per month. The property consists of four (4)
acres. The Town could lease until the end of the year and purchase
January 1, 2002. Supervisor Eddy will negotiate with Mr. Sloan, the
Realtor.
